Description

SL28 - La Riviera - Julio Madrid

Again one for the washed coffee lovers. Yes, we are riding the washed wave right now. Soon there is going to be a bit more crazy stuff but when we cupped this one we couldn’t resist.
Again an outstanding coffee where the texture is the protagonist. A super defined clean and crisp cup with super silky mouthfeel.
We bought this coffee already at harvest and I was delighted to see Julios work is paying off. His Geisha was presented on the World Stage in Jakarta and I was not wondering why. His profiles speak of a precise craft with literally no edges. The silky texture this coffee has to offer is top tier. Drinking it blindly together with the florals it is offering I would never be guessing this is an SL28. Amazing. Also how cool is it to compare this one to clean washed Kenian profiles. Fun days!

With this coffee you will get a Geisha like experience, just a bit richer and less tealike. Silky all the way. The flavor gives us a lot of florals like chamomile and hints of black tea but also a juicy sensation of orange and stonefruits and even something brightly herbal like vanilla. The mouthfeel as mentioned is mostly silky and turns juicy when cooling down. The body is of a very pleasing intensity.
I would recommend brewing this coffee in a wider ratio of something like 1:17 and rather hot (we like 93-95°C) to experience its full floral range. Denser it becomes veery juicy and thick and deeply sweet but then looses its complexity.
Also we found it is worth mentioning that the Onyx in San Francisco got the main part of the harvest (we were lucky to secure a little part of it via our friend Sven at Col-Spirit). Could be intresting having a comparison since we really like their roast style (they do not roast borderline light like us, we think this opens overall complexity. Grassy flavors are not florals, it is a sign of underdevelopment :)
